Studiocanal is playing alongside French producer Hugo Selignac for his upcoming Quentin Dupeugh star-studded film, “Full Phil.”
Studiocanal will be responsible for international sales of English films distributed in France by Diaphana and pre-purchased by Canal+.
Hot Project may have a “White Lotus” vibe. Harrelson stars as Philip Doom, a wealthy American businessman who tries to reunite with his daughter Madeleine (played by Stewart) during a lavish trip to Paris. “Unfortunately, French cuisine, a horror film from the 1950s and an intrusive hotel employee, disrupts the smooth running of your stay,” the summary reads. Tim Heidecker and Nasim Rice complete the cast.
The film features American actors, but is fully filmed in Paris with Dupeuge’s regular French crew. “Full Phil” is not his English debut. He previously made “rubber.” This was lensed in California with a cast including Stephen Spinera.
The prolific and iconic filmmaker, formerly a French electronic musician and record producer, is known for his absurd and quirky sense of humor and his audacity that stands out in the landscapes of French cinema. His 2024 film, The Second Act, premiered the world at the opening night of the Cannes Film Festival, showing off a hilarious stab wound with a French actor (played by Lea Seydoux, Vincent Lindon and Louis Garrel). The film was eventually commercially successful, selling over 500,000 tickets in French theatres.
“It’s Wild. Quentin’s films are very popular with the coolest American actors,” said Selignac, where Chi-Fou-Mi is part of Media One. “When we send them Quentin movies, they get hit because if you see American comedy today, it’s a bit dead.”
“The second act in particular produced a lot of excitement,” Serignac said. Suddenly the American actor said, “Wait, can we still make a film like this? Can we still laugh at everything?”
“Full Phil” is the eighth Dupieux film produced by Selignac in six years, and is the eighth Dupieux film, following “Mankibourg”, “Smoking Causes Cough”, “Yannick”, “Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Dupieux’s films have always featured a prestigious French cast, becoming a reference to young cinemas, working well at the local box office, and selling around the world. Selignac attributes the filmmaker’s admiration to his “extraordinary role and his talent for writing exceptional dialogue.”
Selignac has a lucrative partnership with Studiocanal. The company supported 13 films he produced, including Jill Lelouch’s “Beating Hearts” (which won $36 million in France) and Cedric Jimenez’s thrillers The Stronghold and “November.” They are also partnering with “Dog 51,” which premiered the world on the closing night of the Venice Film Festival and was theatrical release by Studiocanal on October 15th.
