Queen Camilla committed an awkward etiquette no-no by asking Gavin & Stacey’s Ruth Jones if she had lost weight during a weekend trip to South Wales.
The disturbing incident, which occurred during the royal couple’s visit to Syfarsfa Castle last Friday, was filmed by a Daily Mail reporter and later shared online.
“Have you lost a lot of weight?” Camila can be seen asking the actress in the clip.
Mr. Jones seemed to take the comment seriously, replying casually, “Yes, yes, thank you! I’ve lost some weight!”
Jones is best known for co-writing and co-starring with James Corden on Gavin & Stacey, which aired from 2007 to 2010.
The series was further revived with Christmas specials in 2019 and 2024.
The BAFTA-winning actress made headlines in 2011 when she lost nearly 60 pounds, but previously blamed her weight loss on “aversion therapy.”
“I hate my weight and the word ‘struggling,’ but I’ve struggled with my weight all my life. For as long as I can remember. I don’t remember ever being slim,” Jones told the Table Manners podcast, singer Jessie Ware, and her mother Renee.
She went on to tell them that hypnotist Paul McKenna had successfully trained her to restrict her diet.
The Queen is known for her social lapses here and there.
In September, Trump appeared to chase away his daughter-in-law, Kate Middleton, during an awkward spat between President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump.
The 78-year-old King and Queen arrived in South Wales over the weekend to celebrate Prince Charles’ 77th birthday.
Charles’ celebration comes amidst his cancer diagnosis.
Prince William revealed in an update on his health in October that he was “doing well.”
“Everything is going in the right direction. It’s all good news,” he told Eugene Levy, who appeared on the “Schitt’s Creek” star’s series “The Reluctant Traveler.”
