City Year Los Angeles will honor “Project Hail Mary” filmmakers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and education leader Pedro Noguera at its 15th annual Spring Break Gala on April 25 at Universal Studios.
The duo behind major series such as “Into the Spider-Verse” and “The Lego Movie” will be recognized for their contributions to storytelling and their impact on young audiences. Actor Jake Johnson will present awards to Lord and Miller during the event.
The night will be hosted by content creator JuJu Green, also known as Goofy the Straw Hat, who will be hosting the gala for the second year. Noguera, who serves as dean of the Rossier School of Education at the University of Southern California, will give the keynote address with a performance by Allen Stone.
“Phil Lord and Christopher Miller truly embody the values we champion at City Year Los Angeles,” Executive Director Bill Thompson said in a statement. “Through their creative storytelling in the Spider-Verse series, The Lego Movie series, and their latest blockbuster film, Project Hail Mary, they have inspired young generations to believe in their potential and seize opportunities presented to them.”
The Spring Break Gala serves as the nonprofit’s signature fundraiser, supporting students, schools, and AmeriCorps members across Los Angeles. Known for its more casual after-party style format, the event typically attracts more than 600 attendees from the entertainment, business, and education sectors.
Nearing its 20th anniversary, City Year Los Angeles currently partners with 24 schools across the region to provide academic and instructional support to students in under-resourced areas.
