Prince William dodged questions about his uncle, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, after he was stripped of his royal title last week.
When asked by CNN’s Christiane Amanpour to talk about recent “changes in[his]family,” the 43-year-old Duke of Cambridge quickly redirected the conversation back to the Earthshot Prize.
“I think the Earthshot Prize is a classic example of change. Rather than talking about it, we’re doing it. That’s where I want to be,” he said Wednesday at the prize final in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
“These guys here are the true action heroes of all time, and it’s my support, not my actions, that will make a difference.”
Earlier this week, William flew to Brazil to attend the COP30 climate change summit. He announces the finalists for the Earthshot Prize.
The award has been presented to five recipients each year since 2021 in recognition of their efforts to protect the environment.
It’s no secret that Prince William is reportedly not a big fan of his uncle Andrew.
According to a recent royal biography, The Rise and Fall of the House of York, a source claimed that the long-running feud stemmed from “disrespectful” comments Andrew made towards Prince William’s wife, Duchess Kate.
The book also claims that Prince William was “furious” when Andrew, 65, and Sarah Ferguson, 66, unexpectedly attended Kate Middleton’s funeral in September.
“He has taken pains to distance himself from his uncle and avoid being photographed with him,” the book says.
“He believes his father did not treat him with enough firmness and that Andrew and Sarah Ferguson did things that undermined the good work of other members of the royal family.”
The book, written by Andrew Rowney, claims that the heir to the throne also “hated” Andrew’s ex-wife and fully supported his father’s decision to strip Andrew of his royal title and kick him out of the royal family.
King Charles announced last Thursday that he would formally strip Andrew of his royal titles and honors amid renewed interest in the former royal’s relationship with sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.
The deprivation of titles applies to the Prince, Duke of York, Earl of Inverness, Baron Killyleagh and ‘His Royal Highness’. Honors affected include the Order of the Garter and the Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order.
Mr Ferguson was also stripped of his title as Duchess of York. However, the former couple’s two daughters, Princess Beatrice, 37, and Princess Eugenie, 35, retained their royal titles amid the scandal.
In light of his eviction, Page Six is told that Andrew plans to relocate to a property on the Sandringham estate.
Andrew last came under fire for his relationship with Epstein in 2021, when Virginia Giuffre accused him of sexual assault.
At the time, she claimed that Epstein raped her when she was a teenager as part of Epstein’s sex trafficking ring.
Andrew denied Giuffre’s accusations. However, the two finally settled the matter out of court the following year.
As a result of the scandal, Queen Elizabeth stripped her son Andrew of his military titles and patronage in 2022.
