Prime Video has ordered the British original series Dirty from Oscar-nominated writer Matt Charman (Bridge of Spies, Rebel, Hostage), which is described as a “gripping, emotionally moving crime thriller.”
The ongoing series, the first greenlit by director Nicole Clemens since joining Amazon MGM Studios as vice president of international original production last year, is being touted as a “fresh and provocative” take on British police drama that explores universal themes of family loyalty, moral compromise, and the corrosive nature of power through a “complex cat-and-mouse game between mother and daughter.”
Production scheduled to start in the UK in September 2026
Dirty follows trainee detective Eva Bennett as she returns to Manchester to join a new murder investigation led by her terrifying estranged mother, legendary Chief Inspector Lois Mercer. As the two overcome their complicated relationship and long-buried truths emerge, Eva begins to uncover Lois’ crimes and is forced to make an impossible choice between justice and blood.
“I love the strength and insecurity of these two women,” Charman said. “There are no limits to either ability, so every scene explodes with possibilities. Nicole and the entire team at Amazon instantly understood this show. They are deeply passionate about blending character-driven drama with relentless propulsion. We can’t wait to share what we’ve created.”
“Dirty” is produced by Charman’s production company Binocular in association with Amazon MGM Studios. Foz Allan will serve as executive producer, and the series will be produced and written by Charman.
“I have long admired Matt’s outstanding work and am thrilled to be working with him on this great project,” Clemens said. “With two exceptionally powerful women at the center, we are delivering the bold, character-driven storytelling that Prime Video viewers around the world have come to expect, and we look forward to sharing it with audiences around the world.”
“Dirty” will be distributed exclusively worldwide on Prime Video.
