Judith Light has joined the cast of Season 2 of Apple TV’s Presumed Innocent, Variety exclusively reports.

Wright joins previously announced season lead Rachel Brosnahan, as well as cast members Matthew Rhys, Courtney B. Vance, Fiona Shaw, Jack Reynor, John Magaro, Michael Sue Rosen, Lesley-Anne Brandt, and Ji-young Yoo. Details of Wright’s exact character are being kept secret.

As previously announced, Season 2 of Presumed Innocent is based on Joe Murray’s book Autopsy of a Murder Case. The exact logline for the show has not yet been released, as the book is scheduled to be published in May. However, the novel’s description reads: “When Leila Reynolds (Brosnahan) is sentenced to her first murder case, she is shocked to discover it is a high-profile case: the murder of a well-respected and famous judge. This is not her kind of case; it is far beyond her area of expertise. But the defendant, Jack Millman, is clear: All he wants is her, and her only.”

Wright is one of the most acclaimed actresses of her generation. She has been nominated for an Emmy Award five times and won Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Category in 2023 for “Poker Face.” She was nominated twice for her work on Amazon’s “Transparent,” as well as for her roles in “Ugly Betty” and “The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.” Other television credits include “All’s Fair,” “Julia,” “The Politician” and “Law & Order: SVU.” Wright is a highly accomplished stage actress, winning back-to-back Tony Awards in 2012 and 2013 for “Other Desert Cities” and “The Assembled Parties.”

She is repped by Gersh, Brillstein and PMK Entertainment.

David E. Kelley developed Presumed Innocent for television and serves as executive producer and showrunner under his David E. Kelley Productions (DEKP) banner. J.J. Abrams and Rachel Rush Rich serve as executive producers for Bad Robot Productions. DEKP’s Matthew Tinker will also serve as executive producer. Jake Gyllenhaal, who starred in season 1, will serve as executive producer through Nine Stories. Dee Johnson and Dustin Thomason will also serve as executive producers alongside Brosnahan. Scott Turow, author of “Presumed Innocent,” is a co-executive producer, as is Murray. The studio is Warner Bros. Television.

“Presumed Innocent” Season 1 received critical and popular reviews when it premiered in June 2024. Season 1 received four Emmy nominations. Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Anthology Series (Gyllenhaal), Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Anthology Series (Bill Camp & Peter Sarsgaard), and Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Anthology Series (Ruth Negga).
