The president said the kidnappers would face the “very severe, most severe” federal punishment. Arizona has the death penalty.
Nancy Guthrie, 84, was declared missing on February 1st. The next day, the Pima County Sheriff’s Office declared her disappearance a crime in light of some “concerning” evidence discovered at her Arizona home.
On Thursday, the FBI increased the reward for anyone with information leading to Nancy Guthrie’s whereabouts from $50,000 to $100,000. The agency also released new identifying details about the suspect who was caught on doorbell camera trying to break into Nancy Guthrie’s home. The suspect is described as a “male of average build, approximately 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, and is seen in the video carrying a black 25-liter Ozark Trail Hiker Pack backpack,” according to the FBI Phoenix field office.
As the search enters its third week, investigators are analyzing DNA on gloves found in Nancy Guthrie’s home and nearby locations, as well as collecting DNA samples from family members and others who entered her home. On Friday night, police raided Guthrie’s home about two miles away, but made no arrests.
