Spanish Polomenarguez is based on the director behind films such as Elplan and El Talent, the “Elite” Starester Expete, and the prime video television drama “Ros Farado” is based on the Helm thriller series “The Last Dove” (“Laultima Paloma”).
The Last Dove, co-produced, was developed by Capitán Araña and Guion Alto in Spain, and is piloted by producer Nacho La Casa.
“The Last Dove” will be pitched to international buyers and potential co-producers in the sidebar of the Andalusian South Boost industry, part of the third edition of the Spanish South Series International Festival, which will be held September 12-17 in Cadiz.
In the story, Civil Security Sergeant Patria Santiago faces a tough competition for time to stop the ruthless serial killer of Rota, the coastal town of Cadiz Bay in the Atlantic Ocean.
The incident quickly dates back to the 1950s, when a high-ranking US Navy Base officer involved and the arrival of the 6th Fleet transformed Rota into a rare enclave of evil and freedom during Franco’s Spain.
Lewis Lillotto of Menalguez and Gion Alto are the screenwriters of the series.
La Casa defined the project as “a fascinating thriller featuring a charismatic protagonist, a plot that unfolds in two timelines made with meticulous precision, and a great possibility of international co-production.”
“The story takes place in Rota, a very special environment in which Americans and locals have been intertwined for over 70 years and gives the town a unique identity,” he added.
The protagonist of the series is Spanish, but there is a key role for North Americans whose producers want to tap our actors in their international careers.
Menarguez, the author-director of film and television series, was working with Capitan Alagna’s Lacasa in the comedy drama “Elplan”. Menarguez has also directed episodes of television series such as “Los Farad” on Prime Video, “Hit” on RTVE, and “Las Abogados.”
On September 5th, distributor Triviticle will be released in Spanish theatre Menarguez’s latest film, “El Talent.” It was produced by Mediapro Studio in collaboration with Fernando Leon de Aranoa, co-written with Expocito, one of Spain’s most notable international actors, and is known for his breakouts in Netflix’s “Area.”
“In this project, Menarguez believes he can contribute in addition to his great talent as a director, as well as his ability to inject interest and depth into the character. Beyond the thriller, the internal conflict of the protagonist draws the attention of the viewer,” explained La Casa.
Rota is a favorite summer resort for residents of Alcala de Guadaira in Seville, Lhasa’s hometown. “As a child, I spent a lot of summers enjoying that beach, and I was always impressed by the presence of so many Americans. If that idiosyncraticity makes it unique today, imagine what it looks like in the 1950s when the base was created,” he commented.
“It’s exactly the context from the beginning of ‘The Last Dove’ and its main standout feature. So when I read the book, I didn’t hesitate to contact the author to discuss the project and explore the rights. ”
The action in the series takes place between two timelines. One is the current day, and most of it takes place in Rota, so the producer’s plan is to shoot there.
The other is Rota in the 1950s, a small town with many streets still invading American culture and a craving for the fun of soldiers who landed at bases.
“For that context, the idea is to recreate these scenes by combining ad hoc locations with digital recreation in backgrounds that are faithful to the architecture of the era,” says Lhasa.
“This combination is essential to replicate one of the great anomalies of Franco’s dictatorship. In a period of strict bans, Rota was the exception, a paradise where almost everything was allowed for use and enjoyment of the US Marines,” he commented.
Guión Alto is a production company that provides production and creative services for series and films. Recently, he created the first feature “Un Hijo”, directed by La Casa and starring Hugo Silva and Macarena García. Sevilian Prodco is currently developing several new projects of its own.
Madrid-based Capitán Araña has supported several television series, including “Sevilanas de Brooklyn” and the animation feature “Ozzy,” including Disney Channel’s “La Gira” and seven feature films. Spanish Academy Goya Awards.
