If Dylan O’Brien is playing drums on Taylor Swift’s upcoming new album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” he certainly doesn’t hand out that scoop. “Yeah, I can’t say it!” the actor told me Tuesday night at the premiere of his new indie “Twinless” at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood. “You know, I can’t say it.”
O’Brien’s drum play was credited on “Snow on the Beach” on Swift’s 2022 album “Midnights.” “It was the greatest bucket lister of all time for me,” he said.
He also appeared on the other side of Swift and Sadie Sink (“Stranger Things”) in Swift’s “Very Well: Short Films.”
O’Brien claims he has not asked Swift to listen to her new album. “I respect the space,” he said.
In “Twinless,” the twins meet in support groups, stars O’Brien and James Sweeney, who are not able to see the arrival of new friends O’Brien and James Sweeney, O’Brien pulls out a double duty and plays Roman and his late gay twin rocky in flashbacks.
“I was like, ‘What is this?'” O’Brien said of reading the script first. “And I thought it was amazing. I did my homework (Sweeney) and I thought he was incredibly talented and a bit shocked that he was somewhere near me.”
O’Brien was obsessed with the project for about five years before filming finally began. “A lot has happened over the years,” he says, “it has been the most special thing to me. It has been the best thing I’ve read all year round and has grown into me more and more.
As for the mustache currently being discussed, he grew up for his work as rocky and O’Brien said, “I was waiting to whip it. I really have it.”
Sweeney, who wrote and directed the film, said, “It was a shave over time because we wanted the thickness to be right.
Stache was O’Brien’s idea. “We were originally talking about mullets, but we felt that wasn’t in the right direction,” Sweeney said.
Lions Gate and Roadside Attractions will release “Twinless” at the theatres on September 5th.
