Elsie Hewitt feels “intrinsic guilt” over her and Pete Davidson’s decision not to breastfeed their baby girl Scottie.
“When people asked me if I was planning to breastfeed, my thought process was multi-layered,” the model said in an Elle magazine essay published Wednesday. “The most important thing to me was to do what’s best for my baby. I’m always going to do what’s best for her.”
Ms Hewitt, 29, added that her decision took many things into account, including her “mental health”, “recovery” and “the kind of mother” she wanted to be with her partner.
“My body is biologically programmed to nourish my baby, and denying it can feel like going against something ancient and instinctive and deeply beautiful,” Hewitt elaborated.
“Just because formula is safe, healthy, and nutritionally complete doesn’t make that guilt go away. I still have to remind myself, and sometimes literally, that being mentally and emotionally okay is inseparable from being a good mother.”
Hewitt added that she doesn’t feel the pros of breastfeeding outweigh the cons, sharing that feeding in natural ways can create “demands, isolation, and fatigue.”
“I carried my daughter for over nine months,” she explained. “Once she arrived, I didn’t want to be her only lifeline, which would further deplete her, hinder her recovery, and leave little room for my partner and I to share meals.”
The new mother, who welcomed Davidson’s daughter in December 2025, also said she knows that the bond with a young child is “sacred and grows with its presence, not withers away.”
Hewitt told Elle that she was “lucky” that she “didn’t feel any pressure to breastfeed” from those around her, including Davidson, to help her make her decision.
“My partner didn’t push me in either direction,” she said of the “Saturday Night Live” alum. “My mother breastfed me and my sisters, and she was proud of it, but she made it clear to me that the decision was completely mine. She never said anything else. Her self-control meant a lot to me.”
As Page Six previously reported, Hewitt announced Scottie’s birth last December with a series of photos of Scottie and Davidson, 32, holding the newborn.
“Our perfect angel girl arrived on December 12, 2025,” she gushed at the time.
The couple named their baby girl Scottie Rose Hewitt Davidson, after the comedian’s firefighter father Scott, who was killed in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
The actress first showed off her bump in a July 2025 Instagram post, joking in the caption, “Welcome, everyone knows we had sex.”
Scotty is only a few months old, but Davidson revealed the couple’s plans for their second child.
“Of course we want her to make friends,” he told Us Weekly in January. “We love the idea of her becoming a big sister.”
Meanwhile, Hewitt said she can’t believe they are “already (thinking) about making another one.”
“The idea seems absolutely crazy now. The process of giving birth is so crazy, but when it actually starts, it’s so empowering,” she told the outlet.
“You just have this little thing and you can’t really explain how amazing the whole thing is.”
He added, “The idea of creating another one and having a sibling was something I was already thinking, ‘I want to do it again.'” They are very small when they emerge, but they grow quickly. It’s crazy. ”
