Famous blogger Perez Hilton is sharing his faith journey, revealing he encountered God during a recent life-threatening medical experience.
On March 23, Hilton revealed that she had been hospitalized for three weeks with severe sepsis and infection. In a candid video, he said God “revealed himself to me” during his ordeal and transformed him through the experience.
“God revealed himself to me and did something. It was nothing short of a miracle…it was real. It was life-changing,” he said.
On Thursday, the entertainment columnist posted another tearful video on social media in which he apologized for past mistakes and said he had started reading the Bible again.
“I’ve been crying for a long time, but happy tears. Happy tears, because this is so crazy. I’ve been reading the Bible and a lot of what’s written here was already in my head. It’s just overwhelming in the most beautiful way,” he said, holding up the Bible to the camera.
Hilton said what he read in the Bible reflected the changes he had already begun in his personal life, and expressed regret for his past “selfish” actions.
“I’ve made a lot of mistakes in the past. Everyone does it. No one is perfect,” he said. “But my mistakes have been very public. The internet is forever. Receipts are forever. I have deep shame and regret. I am sorry and will continue to apologize. I have also reached out to make amends. I have apologized publicly and privately to dozens of people.”
“Because I was so selfish that I didn’t care who I hurt. I just cared about the public eye, the attention, the money. People hated me,” he continued. “Some people enjoyed it, but I felt like most people hated me. And since I got home last week, I’ve gotten less hate and more love and prayers.”
Hilton acknowledged the backlash she has received over the years for her online reporting, saying that some people still “want to see me suffer,” but added that she believes God loves and forgives her.
“And I think some people are tired of me talking about God. You don’t need to watch these videos. You don’t need to. I love God. My experience was real. My testimony matters,” he said.
Hilton vowed to continue to be a better person.
“What matters is today. How I act today and how I act tomorrow,” he continued. “And not only has God saved me in many ways, but He has given me a new lease of life and a new opportunity to truly get better and do better.”
Several Christian celebrities shared words of encouragement in the comments section of the post.
“Jenny and I stand with Perez! Keep an eye on him!” wrote actor Donnie Wahlberg, who is married to former “The View” host Jenny McCarthy.
“Praying faithfully for you Mr. Perez,” Candace Cameron Bure wrote, along with a prayer hands and heart emoji.
Singer Kaya Jones wrote, “Praise the Lord! Praying for you.”
“You are a beautiful soul, the wonderful Mr. Perez,” actress Bethany Joy Lentz wrote.
In her first video about her hospitalization, Hilton said she was raised Catholic but had never been a believer. He also said he was “excited” to start taking his children to church.
Since then, he has posted several videos thanking God and talking about his spiritual changes as he continues to recover from his hospitalization.
