Perez Hilton required “emergency surgery” for a “massive” blood clot just weeks after being hospitalized for 21 days.
The blogger announced the worrying update in an Instagram video Thursday from his hospital bed at Southern Hills Hospital and Medical Center in Las Vegas.
“We caught this early,” he assured fans, explaining that doctors discovered the blood clot due to extreme pain in his leg.
“I went to the surgeon today and it was really good timing. Last night I started having severe pain in one of my legs. This morning it was even worse. I couldn’t even walk and had to use a walker,” he said.
From there, the surgeon sent him to the hospital for an ultrasound, where they quickly discovered what was wrong.
“I have deep vein thrombosis,” Hilton revealed. “If this blood clot had gone to my lungs or my heart, it could have been really bad, so I’m very grateful to God that we caught it so early.”
“So tomorrow I’m going to have a thrombectomy and be knocked out and have emergency surgery to remove a clot that’s completely blocked. It’s huge. The clot goes all the way from my groin to my leg.”
“I’ll give you an update when I can. See you again,” he concluded by asking his fans for prayers.
Also in the footage, the journalist said he had already met some of the same nurses who cared for him during his 21-day hospitalization last month.
At the time, Hilton (real name Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr.) admitted himself to the hospital after taking flu medication on an empty stomach for a week.
“Because of my stupidity, I ended up in the hospital for 21 days. It was the worst and best thing that ever happened to me,” he said in a YouTube video posted March 23, explaining his “insane story” after his release.
Hilton was unable to walk due to an ulcer and was taken to the hospital.
During his stay, he underwent two major surgeries as doctors discovered perforations in his body.
Hilton then developed sepsis in the hospital, resulting in an extended stay.
After returning home from the hospital, he said his condition was “not 100%,” but he vowed to learn from his health concerns and relax his lifestyle habits.
“From now on, I’m going to have dinner with my kids and my mom every night,” he vowed.
