Alex Ray’s Miraquechu Productions partners with Periclas Pendleton, a well-known production company founded by Javier Fesser and Luis Manso (Champion, Championtex) to produce “Sabado Sabadete” (Satar Sabadete”).
For Periclaspendelton, best known for his box office and family crowd welcoming, the move marks a sharp turn to adult animation, adding heavyweight support to Ray’s indecent vision.
“Saturday’s Sabadete” follows Sabadete, the giant pink adrotor who dominated Spanish television in the 1980s by humiliating his partner Mostachon.
Decades later, Sabadete is broken and forgotten, planning a comeback with his fellow washed-down TV star.
Director, produce and voice all the characters, Ray already offers the full Bible, trailer and pilot episodes. The project first attracted industry attention with a strange market showcase in Spain.
“This is an adult animation series rooted in Spain,” Ray told Variety. “We have consumed shows like “South Park” and “Family Guy” in the US for years, but it doesn’t reflect our own culture.
Founded in 2005, Mirachechu Productions began with national and international prize-winning shorts as one of Ray’s creative vehicles, scripts, animations and vocalizations. His “Pobre Marciano” was screened at the Ottawa Festival, one of the world’s top animated meetings.
Saturday’s Sabadete
Along with “Saturday Sabadete,” Mirachechu will expand in partnership with Periklas Pendleton.
Luis Manso’s involvement adds the weight of the industry. Alongside Fesser, he piloted Periclas Pendleton, from “The Miracle of P. Tint” and “Mortadello and Philemon: The Unbelievable Mission” to the 19.1 million euro ($22.3 million) runaway success of the “Champions” released to Spanish graduates.
For Ray, the Alliance will mark a leap from indie cult shorts to industrial-scale production, placing “Saturday Sabadete” as a bold attempt to push adult animation with a local edge onto the global stage.
“Sabado Sabadete” will be pitched on Wednesday, October 1 as part of the Co-Production and Financing Forum at Iberseries & Platino Industry 2025 in Madrid.
