Pedro Pascal is wrapping the lead role in Todd Haynes’ “De Noche” as he plans to resume production that has been closed.
Once the deal closes, Pascal stars in the opposite side of Danny Ramirez, with the pair playing a corrupt cop and his young lover, fleeing from 1930s Los Angeles for Mexico. Joaquin Phoenix had previously been obsessed with the project, but it stagnated last year when the actor left the lead role before filming began in Guadalajara, Mexico. Produced by Killer Films and supported by sales agent M2K Film, the film was already sold to international distributors prior to production.
News of Pascal’s casting potential lies in a particularly packed year for the actor who won the second Emmy nod in his work in Season 2 of HBO’s “The Last of Us” and starred on the big screen in a trio of high-profile projects. Christine Vahon and Pamela Koffler of Killer Films also gave birth to “materialists.” Pascal then reprises his role as Mr. Fantastic as Reed Richards in Marvel’s Avengers: The End, where he works with him as the Mandalorian in Star Wars: The Mandalorian and the Grog (this time in the movie theatre, not in the cinema+, instead of Disney+).
Following the Phoenix exit, Haynes was hoping the project could be revived. “What happened this summer was tough,” the film director said during a conversation at the Marrakech Film Festival in December. “But the film itself and the script (Haynes co-written with John Raymond) itself may one day be revived in a different way.”
Pascal is represented by CAA, Jackoway, Austen, and Tyerman. Haynes is represented by CAA, Cinetic Media and Sloss Eckhouse Dasti Haynes Lawco.
Deadline was the first to report news that Pascal was involved in the project.
