Thailand’s Benethorn Films and Fearfolks have set Pe Arak and Weir Sucorawat to star in the new Thai horror blockbuster Cher, which is currently in pre-production in Bangkok.
Arak is known for “The Stone” and “In Use We Trust,” while Sukorawat previously appeared in “Bangkok Breaking” and “Home for Rent.” The two actors recently co-starred in the Thai action film “4 Tigers,” which was ranked as the top Thai movie of 2025, grossing more than 102 million baht ($3.2 million) locally and remaining at number one at the box office for four consecutive weeks.
“Cher” centers on a police officer investigating a vine-covered corpse found near a remote mining camp that has invaded a sacred forest area, as he struggles with the secrets of his estranged brother – and whose anger sparks rumors of a vengeful Thai forest spirit that may be connected to a mysterious young woman.
The script will be written by Patrick Graham, the screenwriter of Netflix’s Indian horror series ‘Ghoul’ and ‘Betaal’, and directed by Songsak Mongkolton (‘School Tales: The Series’, ‘Graveyard Horror’).
Fearfolks CEO Hans Audric Estialbo will be in charge of international sales for the project at this year’s Hong Kong Filmart.
“As avid fans of the genre, we are excited to bring this dark vision to life and scare audiences with a timeless story for years to come,” said producer Kurtep Narula. “I couldn’t be more excited to work with this amazing cast and great producing partners.”
“True horror reveals the core of a culture. We are proud to empower Thai storytellers to transform local legends into the world’s next great films and box office masterpieces,” said Rakvin Narula, CEO of Benetone Film.
“Dominating our country’s horror films on the global stage is proof that Thailand’s talent is world-class and proves that our unique cultural lens can successfully captivate audiences around the world,” Estialbo added.
“Cher” is targeted for release in 2028.
