BUENOS AIRES, Argentina — To strengthen this year’s Ventana Sur comedy quotient, which is already emerging in the market’s marquee sector, Barcelona-based studio Filmax is bringing to market “Looking for Michael,” produced by Kiko Martínez, who supported Alex de la Iglesia’s “Perfect Strangers.”
International buyers can see the first footage of the film at the Ventana Sur market in Buenos Aires.
Filmax will be in charge of overseas sales of “Looking for Michael.” The first images of the film will be unveiled at Ventana Sur in Buenos Aires, Latin America’s largest film and television market.
Juana Macias’ latest film, Looking for Michael, whose acerbic screwball family comedy Just One Small Favor was also featured on Filmax, encapsulates several market trends. It’s an eye-opening comedy that uplifts serious themes.

Sonia is a young woman diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Together with a music therapy group of people living with OCD, paraplegia, Parkinson’s disease, and autism, she decides to face her illness with energy and hope rather than resignation, and sets out to find Michael J. Fox, a global icon in the fight against Parkinson’s disease.
“Looking for Michael” stars Nuria Herrero, Vito Sanz (“The Other Way Around”), Paco Toth (“Money Heist”), Lorena López, Sara Lobisco and Michel Noere (“La Unidad”).
The comedy also has a very emotional side, but Filmax says it is inspired by real events. He added that the film explores how art can change lives and bring people together, using music as a means of expression, autonomy and connection.
The comedy “tackles serious themes (disability and Parkinson’s disease) in a surprisingly positive way without being overly sentimental,” said Ivan Díaz, head of international division. “The music, the sense of humor, and the authenticity of the characters make this a universal story that resonates with audiences of all cultures.”
