Two years after selling Simon & Schusater, Paramount is returning to the book industry with the launch of a new publishing company, Paramount Global Publishing.
The newly created publishing division will operate under the company’s Products & Experiences division, led by President Josh Silverman, and overseen by Amy Jarasho, Global Head of Publishing. Paramount said Jarashow and her team will focus on producing complementary published content inspired by the brand’s iconic portfolio of brands and franchises, as well as generating new IP through the creation of original stories.
The launch of the new books division comes more than a few years after Paramount Global sold its publisher Simon & Schuster to a private equity firm for $1.62 billion in October 2023. Paramount said the move, which returns to publishing under Skydance’s new leadership, “represents a strategic expansion of how fans can engage with the company’s esteemed content, while also creating new opportunities to develop original IP.”
According to the company, “Paramount will oversee the direct development, production and production of Paramount Global Publishing books, with retail sales and distribution handled by a yet-to-be-named partner.”
Paramount said it will continue its existing licensing strategy with publishers and distributors.
Launching initially in the US and Canada, with plans to expand to other markets in the future, the imprint will produce print, digital and audio content across genres and age groups. Paramount Global Publishing plans to announce the first title at a later date.
“The stories that emerge from the page have the unique power to build immersive worlds, create compelling characters, and forge deeper connections with fans,” Silverman said. “With the launch of Paramount Global Publishing, we are expanding the reach of our most beloved series while introducing original stories to audiences around the world.”
