Apple TV has canceled “Palm Royale,” starring Kristen Wiig, after two seasons, Variety has confirmed.
The social drama, created by Abe Sylvia, launched its first season on the streamer in 2024. The show follows aspiring Whiig aristocrat Maxine Delacourte-Simmons as she tries her best to become a 1960s Palm Beach beauty by reaching out to the upper echelons of Florida’s most exclusive beach club, the Palm Royale. Other cast members include Ricky Martin, Josh Lucas, Leslie Bibb, Amber Charade Robinson, Laura Dern, Allison Janney, Kaia Gerber, and Carol Burnett. “Palm Royale” is a loose adaptation of Juliette McDaniel’s 2018 novel “Mr. and Mrs. American Pie.”
Season 1 of “Palm Royale” was nominated for 11 Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series, Best Actress for Wiig, and Best Supporting Actress for Burnett. One statue was brought home as outstanding original main title theme music. In season 2, Wiig was nominated for the SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series.
The official logline for Season 2 of Palm Royale reads: “After a scandalous public scandal, Maxine becomes an outcast. She taps into a deep well of cleverness and cunning to prove that she is not only worthy of this town, but also one that rules it.” She must prove once and for all that she just might have what it takes. In the process, she uncovers untold truths and ends up understanding what this town is really built on…secrets, lies, and the occasional felonies.”
Creator Sylvia also served as writer, showrunner, and executive producer under Aunt Sylvia’s Moving Picture Company. Other executive producers include Dern, Jaywalker Pictures’ Jamie Lemons, Wiig, and Katie O’Connell Marsh. Shar White, Sheri Holman, Becky Maude and Stephanie Lane also serve as executive producers.
