“Adolescence” star Owen Cooper won his first Golden Globe Award on Sunday night, winning the trophy for Best Supporting Actor in Television. This makes Cooper the youngest ever winner of the category, beating Chris Colfer, who was 20 when he won for “Glee” in 2010, at 16.

This makes Cooper the second-youngest male Globe winner in history. “The Champ” star Ricky Schroder won New Star of the Year in 1980 at the age of nine.

“It feels completely surreal to be standing at the Golden Globes. What an incredible journey my family and I have been on,” Cooper said in his speech, drawing laughter from the audience. “We are forever grateful for what they have done for me and my family.”

He went on to say that he was the only boy in his drama class, which was “embarrassing” but “I got over it.” He also said he is “still learning every day,” especially from the actors in the room.

Cooper also won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. This made him the youngest male acting Emmy winner in history. He was nominated for the role of Jamie Miller in the Netflix miniseries Adolescence, which became his breakthrough role.

The actor was nominated against Ashley Walters (“Adolescence”), Billy Crudup (“The Morning Show”), Jason Isaacs (“The White Lotus”), Tramell Tillman (“Severance”) and Walton Goggins (“The White Lotus”).

“Youth” is an award favorite. At the Emmy Awards, in addition to Cooper’s honor, the show won Best Limited Series, Best Actor (Stephen Graham), and Best Supporting Actress (Erin Dougherty). Cooper has also won a Critics Choice Award, a Gotham TV Award, and was nominated for a SAG-AFTRA Best Actor Award.

“Adolescence” was nominated for five Globe Awards this year. In addition to Cooper and Walters, the awards include Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Limited Series, Anthology Series, or a Made-for-Television Movie (Stephen Graham), Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role on Television (Erin Doherty), and Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Made-for-Television Movie (Erin Doherty).

Male actors in supporting roles on television include all genres, including comedy, drama, and limited series. Last year’s winner was “Shogun” Tadanobu Asano.

Variety’s parent company PMC owns Golden Globe Award producer Dick Clark Prods. In a joint venture with Eldridge.
