Naomi in Osaka didn’t just play under the lights – she sparkled.
The two-time US Open champion, 27, made a racket when she competed in her first round at a tennis tournament on Tuesday night, ramming the court with accessories with a series of custom beds and a glittering Nike outfit.
Osaka created a spectacular entrance in a ponytail decorated with dozens of gemstone-covered red roses, matching headphones and a lovebourg doll covered in crystals, known as “Billie Jean Bling.”
Longtime Osaka hairstylist Marty Harper styled knitting and ponytails courtesy of designer Kerin Rose Gold’s A-Morir, luxurious eyewear and accessories line.
According to the brand’s Instagram, the sparkling roses were 3D printed, and the crystal-covered headphones featured metal roses imported from Japan.
Her Lovebu had a blue racket covered in crystals to suit her own. A-Morir sold a similar appeal (no custom tennis tie-in) for $495.
This label is no stranger to the brilliance of the statement. We have created bespoke crystal rading pieces for stars such as Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, Chapel Lawn.
After winning Belgian opponent Minen’s Greech 6-3, 6-4, Osaka told reporters that they had begun conceptualizing the glam team and the glittering look a few weeks ago.
“You think this is possible?” she said. “We’re just throwing a little idea. Obviously, the results are far better than I imagined.”
Of her complete outfit, including a coral red zip jacket, matching crystal-studded tank tops and a vast bubble hem skirt, she explained that the design process began much earlier.
“Crystals are really difficult in performance outfits, so it was really elaborate,” No. 23 Seed said. “I really enjoyed playing New York under the lights and I’m happy that my first match was a night game.
She removed the waist-length ponytail for the game and played with her hair in braided pans.
“It was really heavy so I always knew I was going to take my hair off,” she explained. “I played it with braids a few times, and even that was like a boundary line.
At last year’s tournament, the tennis pro wears two custom looks from Ambush’s Yoon Ahn, created in collaboration with Nike, leaning on femininity, resilience, and her Japanese heritage, leaning on the bow and frills.
She didn’t even skip accessories at the time, combining the ensemble with ruffled beat headphones and a mess of pearls adorning her hair.
“When I’m in court, I have no automatic relationship with girly things, but I tend to be drawn to things that are truly beautiful and cute,” Osaka told The New York Times, an ensemble inspired by her harajuku. “I think there’s something very cool about highlighting that, especially here in New York. In New York, tennis courts are like a stage.”
