Oprah Winfrey explained that her “90-year-old walk” at Paris Fashion Week earlier this month was because she was blind.
“On the internet, somebody…you know how people drag you down on the internet. So they dragged me and Gail and said, ‘Look at them walking like they’re 90 years old,'” Oprah said during a recent appearance, according to a clip shared by Instagram user @jznotthatjayz on Friday and later reshared by the talk show icon herself.
“Then there was a moment where we walked into the Chloé fashion show and my[assistant]just handed me a pair of Chloé sunglasses before I got out of the car,” she continued, noting that she “wears glasses or contacts” and that the Couture shades “were not prescription glasses.”
She laughed and confessed, “I didn’t know where I was walking. I couldn’t see.”
“So the people who said, ‘You’re walking like you’re 90 years old,’ I couldn’t see!” she explained, recalling telling the security guard, “I can’t see.” I can’t see it. Tell me, tell me where you’re walking. I can’t see it. ”
She hilariously added that longtime friend Gayle King, who was walking with her, said, “I broke two toes. I can’t walk.”
She concluded: “That’s why we look 90 years old.”
“Oprah saw all your comments about her walk,” Instagram user Joseph Zambrano posted, captioning it, “And here we go 🤣.”
Footage from the March 4th show at the Tennis Club de Paris showed the 72-year-old author arriving with careful steps, rocking stylish sunglasses, a cropped yellow jacket and jeans. She completed her look with low heels.
Mr. King, 71, followed behind her as she walked carefully, wearing a black leather blazer and rust-colored slacks.
“This is the first time I’ve seen Oprah look older,” one person commented on a TikTok clip shared by Paris Match. “They’re both in their 70s,” another person noted, adding: “I think Oprah looks great.”
However, some have speculated that Winfrey’s use of weight loss drugs, which she has admitted to using to achieve weight loss, may be the cause of her seemingly disoriented gait.
“Ozempic is working even when it’s not,” one TikTok user said, while another chimed in: “What’s going on here Ozempic 😳.”
The TV personality, who previously denied using GLP-1 for weight loss, revealed in 2023 that she had been using an unspecified weight loss drug as part of her ongoing health journey.
“I use it now when I feel like I need it, as a tool to manage not to yo-yo,” she told People in December 2023.
“The fact that there is a medically approved prescription for managing weight and staying healthy feels like a relief, a relief, a gift in my lifetime, not something to hide behind and be ridiculed again,” she continued.
She added: “I’m done with being shamed by others, especially myself.”
