I fly more than 20 times a year, which means I live out of a suitcase rather than a closet. Last year, before a holiday trip, I decided to upgrade my luggage to a Base Check suitcase. I can confidently say that it might be the only travel companion I actually look forward to taking with me at the airport.
And Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King are also fans of this fashionable travel brand, so it turns out I’m in good company. The large checked bag made Oprah’s Favorite Things 2025 list for its “high-fashion colors” and space-saving features.

This bag actually has a built-in scale, which I didn’t even know about until I read Winfrey’s review. “A built-in weight indicator next to the handle will tell you if the bag weighs more than 50 pounds, something Gail will appreciate, as she learned the hard way what happens when you exceed that.”
Overpackers rejoice: You’ll know exactly when you’ve reached your bag’s maximum value. When it comes to packing, this bag holds a lot. It can easily accommodate a 2-3 week trip. The interior is thoughtfully designed with spacious pockets and compartments to keep everything organized.
One side has a zippered divider with two pouches (including a waterproof pouch), and the other side has compression straps and a removable lining. Two drawstring laundry bags are also included, a small but effective detail for keeping clean and worn clothes separate when traveling.
While you are here…
Oprah’s Favorite Things List is filled with travel essentials that everyone needs on their vacation trip.
Despite being able to carry so many items, the bag never feels too heavy and difficult to maneuver. Weighing just under 12 pounds, the spinner wheels and trolley handles provide miraculously smooth movement through the airport. Exterior side handles make lifting from the carousel easier, and King says the design is “easy to retrieve” at baggage claim.
The hard shell design is durable and protects your essentials inside. After several flights, the shell still shows no scratches or signs of wear. Security is also enhanced with a TSA approved lock.

Béis bags are known for their style-conscious designs that add a touch of luxury to any trip, even economy flights. I have the maple check bag (because I can’t resist a good brown), but it also comes in other eye-catching shades like olive, beige, pink, and burgundy.
If, like King and I, you’re into coordinating travel moments, you can find matching items in the same colors, such as carry-on rollers (I also have one in maple), weekenders, tote bags, or a full set with large, medium, and carry-on rollers.
