Fox’s upcoming ‘Baywatch’ reboot heads to the beach to find new cast.
The network and Fremantle have set up an open casting call in Los Angeles for February 18 to cast both actors and non-actors in the series. Adults of all races and genders are welcome to audition and will be considered for series regular roles, recurring characters, and walk-ons. Possible roles include everything from “lifeguards and bathers to bartenders, friends and lovers, rescuers and saviors of all kinds, and even additional characters yet to be written,” according to Fox.
The casting call emphasizes that cast members must arrive prepared for Baywatch, which it defines as a “wardrobe reminiscent of a beach atmosphere,” but also notes that they must be “sophisticated and professional and avoid overly revealing styles or costumes.” This humorous addendum appears to be a reference to the high-cut red swimsuits that were famous in the original Baywatch, but it remains to be seen whether Fox is planning a more modest lifeguard costume this time around, or if they’re simply hoping to prevent wardrobe malfunctions in the audition room.
The casting call will be held at the Marina del Rey Marriott. Registration is available at baywatchcastingcall.com.
“Baywatch” will begin production in March at Venice Beach and the Fox property. The series is scheduled to premiere during the 2027-2027 season. Matt Nix will serve as showrunner and executive producer alongside Michael Burke, Greg Bonnan, Dante Di Loreto, Doug Schwartz and Mike Horowitz.
The original “Baywatch” was at one point the most-watched series in the world, airing in more than 200 countries and reaching more than 1 billion viewers weekly by some estimates. Starring David Hasselhoff, it aired for 11 seasons from 1989 to 2001, first on NBC and then on FOX in syndication with the 2003 reunion film.
“The ‘Baywatch’ open casting call gives actors a unique opportunity to join the team of an iconic global sensation that celebrates the spirit of California and helped define Los Angeles’ unparalleled beach culture,” Michael Thorne, president of FOX Television Networks, said in a statement. “We’re excited to discover new faces with an authentic Southern California energy as we bring Baywatch back to life for a new generation of fans.”
