Monkey D. Luffy and his pirate crew are sailing into yet another uncharted territory: the movie theater.
Netflix will release the first two episodes of “One Piece” season 2 in select theaters on March 10, coinciding with the streaming release date. Theatrical screenings will take place in the United States, Canada, and Japan, with North American screenings beginning at 6pm local time.
Tickets go on sale Thursday, February 26th at 8am PT/11am ET. Participating U.S. theaters include AMC, Regal, Cinemark, Alamo, and Cineplex, with additional theaters in Canada and Japan.
Season 2 teases, “Luffy (Inyaki Godoy), Zoro (Makenyu), Nami (Emily Ladd), Usopp (Jacob Romero), and Sanji (Taz Skyler) journey to the Grand Line, a fabled ocean where danger and wonder await at every turn. There, they visit strange islands, recruit more allies, and battle new and formidable enemies in search of the world’s greatest treasures.”
“One Piece” is the second streaming series Netflix is bringing to theaters, following “Stranger Things,” which filled theaters over New Year’s Day. The final episode of the series grossed over $25 million and sold over 1.1 million ticket vouchers. AMC earned $15 million from food and beverage sales alone.
Godoy, Kensuke Mackenyu, Rudd, Romero, Skyler and Kalithra Chandran will star in the live-action version of the hit anime. Additional cast includes Anton David Jefusa, Brendan Sean Murray, Callum Carr, Camrus Johnson, Clive Russell, Daniel Lasker, David Dastmalchian, James Hiroyuki Rio, Includes Jasara Jaslin, Joe Manganiello, Julia Rewald, Katey Sagal, Lela Abova, Mark Harelik, Mark Penwill, Michaela Huber, Rigo Sanchez, Rob Colletti, and Sendil.
