After Christopher Nolan fans rushed to secure premium tickets for his long-awaited blockbuster The Odyssey last week, Tom Holland and Letterboxd are encouraging fans to take their love of the film format to the next level.
“For the first time on Letterboxd, you’ll be able to track and share how you experience movies with brand new digital punch cards,” Holland, who plays Odysseus’ son, said in a video posted by Letterboxd. “All watches and rewatches in all formats — bragging rights are fully unlocked. Coming soon, keep an eye on Letterboxd social.”
The film is based on Homer’s legendary story about a Greek hero who journeys home after the Trojan War. Holland stars in the film along with Matt Damon, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Mia Goth, and Benny Safdie.
Nolan has long been associated with a love of IMAX. The Odyssey, the first film shot exclusively with IMAX cameras, is no exception. The film can be experienced in a wide variety of formats including 70mm Imax, Imax 1.90:1, 70mm film, 35mm film, Dolby Vision, and premium large format, giving audiences a wide range of options (at least seats are still available for purchase).
Many of the film’s stars have posted promotional videos detailing the various formats. For example, Mr. Holland explained the appeal of premium large format as follows: “Exhibitors have designed these theaters to provide a rich experience for our customers, with wall-to-wall screens and superior projection technology for a more immersive experience. If you want to experience the movie, watch ‘The Odyssey’ on RX or D-Box. Your seats don’t just sit there. When we move, you move too. It’s going to be a great time.”
“Odyssey” will be released in theaters on July 17th.
