Amazon’s drama adaptation of Sunny Hostin’s novel “Summer on the Bluffs” takes a step forward with Norman Vance Jr. joining the project as showrunner. It is still in development.
Vance will executive produce the series along with Hostin and Regina Jansen of Sunny Hostin Productions. 20th Television will serve as executive producer and Amazon MGM Studios will produce. Octavia Spencer previously participated as an EP, but is no longer involved in the show.
Variety exclusively reported that “Summer on the Bluffs” was in development at Amazon in 2023. The show’s logline reads:
“Amelia Vaux Tanner has lived a remarkable life. She was known as the ‘Witch of Wall Street’ when she was one of the first black women on the floor of the stock exchange, married a prominent civil rights lawyer, and built her dream home on the bluffs of Martha’s Vineyard. Today, she is affectionately known as Ama is ready to share not only her beloved Vineyard home, Chateau Laveau, but also her secrets. Under the guidance of Ama’s godmother, Ama grew up close like sisters and has now grown into a beautiful, successful, and hard-working professional. And each woman wonders why on earth Ama came into their lives. ”
Vance previously created the Disney series Saturdays. He recently worked as a consulting producer on the critically acclaimed Netflix series “Forever.” The series itself is a series adaptation of Judy Blume’s novel of the same name by Mara Brock Akil. His other television credits include Apple TV’s “Swagger,” Fox’s “Our Kind of People,” OWN’s “Queen Sugar” and BET’s “American Soul.”
He is repped by Heroes & Villains and Goodman Genow.
