The 21st Zurich Film Festival honors US director and screenwriter Noah Bambach and pays tribute to the award for his work. The award will be presented to him on September 26th during the gala premiere of his new film, “Jay Kelly,” at the Congress House in Zurich. Additionally, Baumbach maintains a public master class.
“Together with Noah Bambach, we celebrate Oater who has shaped our films for decades, with his nuanced insight into relationships and his precise observation.” “Jay Kelly,” in my opinion, is one of the standout films of the year, and in retrospect, one of the films that we consider to be a masterpiece. ”

Baumbach has been nominated for four Academy Awards. In 2006 he was nominated for the original script for “Squid and the Whale.” In 2020, “Marriage Story” received six nominations, including Best Picture by Baumbach and David Heyman, and original scripts by Baumbach. In 2024, Baumbach was nominated for an adapted script for “Barbie,” shared with Greta Gerwig.
“Many times, Baumbach has managed to blend intimate everyday stories with existential questions with outstanding actors such as Scarlett Johansson, Adam Driver, Nicole Kidman, Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler, Dustin Hoffman and Greta Gerwig,” the festival said.
Event says his new film is faithful to “Comédieumaine.” “Jay Kelly” is a satire of Hollywood’s Star Circus. George Clooney plays famous film actor Jay Kelly and embarks on a journey of self-discovery facing both his past and present, accompanied by his dedicated manager Ron (Adam Sandler). The film is considered one of the major Oscar contenders of the season. “A scathing, humorous, grand and intimate, Jay Kelly is pitched at the intersection of life’s regret and prominent glory,” Fest said.
Baumbach’s films also include Frances Ha, White Noise, The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected), While We Young, Mistress America, Margot at the Wedding, Kicking and Scheaming, and De Palma. He co-written “Fantastic Mr. Fox” and “Life Aquatic with Steve Jisou” and Wes Anderson.
It includes Edward Berger, Paolo Sorrentino, Wim Wenders, Olivier Assay, Claire Dennis, Michael Haneke, Oliver Stone, Mywen, Luca Guadanino, and previous winners of the award.
