“Jersey Shore” staple Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi received some scary news during a recent doctor’s appointment.
The reality TV personality revealed on TikTok on Wednesday that she had been suffering from abnormal pap smear results and precancerous cells for about four years, leading to an “uncomfortable” colposcopy and biopsy.
“The results are in. The doctor called me and said, ‘It doesn’t look good.’ They found cancer cells in the upper part of my cervix,” she said, adding that she would need a cone biopsy under anesthesia for further testing.
“It’s scary. It’s scary, but cervical cancer is no joke and it has to be treated,” the 38-year-old continued.
A tearful Polizzi explained that if the second biopsy results were abnormal, she might need a hysterectomy.
“It’s clear that I’m done having children, but as a woman it’s just sad and scary to think about having a hysterectomy,” she said.
“I think having a hysterectomy and not being able to have children after that is what’s killing me.”
“But I would do anything to keep me healthy and safe for the kids I have,” she added of her three children with husband Gionni LaValle: Lorenzo, 13, Giovanna, 11, and Angelo, 6.
Polizzi added that she was “scared and distraught” but hoped her video would help connect with other women who have gone through similar situations.
She also admitted that she delayed her regular exams out of fear and didn’t want others to make the same mistake.
“The reason doctors always hate it is because I waited. I waited for the appointment because I knew I might not get great results, but also because I didn’t want to feel the pain. I didn’t want to deal with the stress of having to deal with all this,” she said.
“I’m just making this video to spread awareness to make sure you get a Pap smear. And if your doctor tells you to get it again, do it. Make sure you’re okay and prevent all the bad things that can happen, like cervical cancer.”
In closing, Polizzi said she relies on the support of her family and friends.
“Being a woman isn’t easy and this is definitely scary. I know I’ll be okay. I’m just scared.”
“Guys, we’re in this together 🙏🏽,” she added in the caption.
