Nicole Kidman reportedly fought bitterly for custody of her and Keith Urban’s children until the exes reached a seemingly amicable divorce settlement.
According to the custody agreement obtained by Page Six on Tuesday, Kidman will raise their daughters Sunday, 17, and Faith, 15, 306 days a year, while Urban will raise them 59 days every other weekend, from Saturday morning to Sunday night.
“The only challenge was custody of Sunday and Faith,” a source told the Daily Mail on Wednesday. “Keith originally wanted to spend time with his daughters.”
According to sources, the demands worsened the Oscar-winning actress, 58,’s mental state.
“It’s been a particularly stressful time for Nick,” the source explained. “They’ve been married for almost 20 years and she knows how stubborn Keith can be. She was worried and distressed by his refusal to budge.”
Another source said Kidman fought hard to have her daughters, mostly because “she wasn’t given that benefit when she divorced Tom Cruise.”
When Kidman divorced her first husband in February 2001, they agreed to joint custody of their adopted daughter Isabella, 33, and son Connor, 30. However, the brothers ultimately decided to live primarily with their father, a prominent member of the Church of Scientology.
A second source for the Daily Mail noted that logistics were also taken into account when finalizing the details of Kidman’s custody agreement with fellow 58-year-old country singer Urban.
“Keith has a lot of tour dates coming up and his schedule is a little less flexible than Nicole’s,” a second source said.
“She enjoys being at home when she’s not on set, and the kids can join her on set more consistently if they want. It’s a much better atmosphere than backstage at a concert.”
The first source said it took “a lot of effort” for Urban to agree to Kidman’s terms.
“The girls are both teenagers and at this age they need their mother more than their father,” the source claimed. “Keith knew he would never win the battle in court, but he ultimately stepped aside and the divorce was finalized.”
However, a source close to Kidman denied to Page Six that custody was ever a “point of contention” between the former couple.
“Nicole and Keith have mutually agreed and signed documents confirming their custody arrangement,” the source claimed.
Meanwhile, Kidman, Sunday, and Faith remain at their family home in Nashville, with Urban reportedly moving out in the summer of 2025.
According to New Idea, the musician has been struggling with the change in family relationships, especially since his daughters spent Thanksgiving, Christmas, Faith’s birthday, and New Year’s Eve with Australian-born Kidman.
Missing Faith’s birthday in particular was “heartbreaking for Keith” and felt “like a punch in the gut”, a source told Australian media, adding that he felt “completely lost” and “no longer knows where home is”.
Kidman filed for divorce from Urban in September 2025 after 19 years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for their separation, but there are rumors that the split may have been due to an affair with “another woman.”
“Sometimes relationships just pass on their own,” a source previously told Page Six, adding that Kidman “didn’t want to separate and was trying to salvage things.”
Representatives for the star did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
