Nicholas Hoult and Daisy Edgar-Jones are teaming up with The Great and Poor Things writer Tony McNamara to create the new Disney+ comedy series Mosquito.
According to the show’s synopsis, the show is described as an “ironic look at the relationships of a young couple”, with the British stars playing Kate and Ed, “a newly married couple whose secrets begin to be revealed as their day-to-day personas gradually fade… and it all started with an invading mosquito.” Filming is scheduled to begin next year.
The UK-based Hulu original series “Mosquito” marks the reunion of Hoult and McNamara following the success of “The Great,” which aired for three seasons on the streamer. McNamara said in a statement: “I am thrilled and thrilled to be working and teaming up with two of the best actors.” “I can’t wait to go make some absurdist comedy with them.”
Eric Schrier, President of Disney Television Studios and World Original Television Strategy, Walt Disney Company, and Disney+ Angela Jayne, head of content for EMEA, added: “Tony is one of the most talented writers working in film and television today, and has enjoyed incredible success at Disney. He has an unparalleled ability to bring fascinating and complex stories to life, blending his signature dark humor and complexity with sharply written and complex dialogue. We are partnering with him on Mosquito.” This is an incredible step forward for our local original content and strengthens our ambitions in the UK. ”
“Mosquito” is produced by 20th Television, Piggy Ate Roast Beef Productions and Hustle & Punch, with McNamara, Holt, Edgar-Jones, Marian McGowan, Tracy Underwood and Daniel Pipski serving as executive producers. The series was commissioned for Disney+ by Lee Mason, Executive Director of Scripts, Walt Disney Company EMEA. The show will be streamed worldwide on Disney+ and Hulu.
