Director Samuel L. Jackson’s long-conceived “Tulsa King” spinoff is finally moving forward, but with a new title and setting. Paramount+ announced Tuesday that “Frisco King” (previously titled “NOLA King”) will begin production next month in Fort Martin. Worth, Texas.

“Tulsa King” creator Taylor Sheridan will write all eight episodes of “Frisco King” Season 1, which will be produced by Paramount Television Studios and 101 Studios. The news that Sheridan will write all episodes of “Frisco King” comes seven months after Variety first reported the news that original “NOLA King” showrunner Dave Erickson was leaving the spinoff.

“We are honored to have Taylor Sheridan write the first season of The Frisco King and bring Samuel L. Jackson’s iconic character to life,” said Matt Tournell, president of Paramount Television Studios. “Having him write every episode of the season in his unique voice will be a treat for Tulsa King fans and viewers around the world.”

Back when it was called “NOLA King,” the spinoff was supposed to be set in New Orleans. However, changing the title also involves changing the settings. “Frisco King” is primarily set in Frisco, Texas. (According to insiders, the show will still make short visits to New Orleans, but the majority of the story will take place in Frisco.)

Jackson was introduced to Tulsa King viewers in Season 3 as Russell Lee Washington Jr. “After befriending Dwight Manfredi (Sylvester Stallone) while serving 10 years in federal prison, he is sent to Tulsa by New York’s Renzetti crime family to take Dwight out once and for all.” Instead, according to the original logline, he was “inspired by what Dwight created in Tulsa and impressed by the possibility of second chances.”

“Taylor Sheridan continues to build worlds that attract some of the most iconic talent working today, and ‘The Frisco King’ is no exception,” said Jane Wiseman, head of originals at Paramount+. “It’s a testament to the scale and ambition of the storytelling that Taylor creates. We’re thrilled to expand on this storyline with such a strong creative team and bring it to Paramount+.”

It was previously announced that production would begin in early 2026. Now, word is that cameras will start rolling in Fort Worth in late March.

Sheridan, Stallone, and Jackson all appear on the “Frisco King” EP. David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari, Christina Alexandra Voros, Michael Friedman, LaTanya Richardson Jackson and Keith Cox also serve as executive producers.

Paramount+ noted that “Tulsa King” spent 11 consecutive weeks in the top 10 of Nielsen’s Streaming Originals chart in fall 2025.

Jackson’s recent television work includes the Apple TV limited series “The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey,” the Marvel and Disney+ show “Secret Invasion,” and Peacock’s “Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist.” He also previously voiced the title character in the animated series Afro Samurai.
