Sen. Cory Booker announced Sunday that he has married Alexis Lewis after a whirlwind romance.
Booker, 56, shared photos from her two weddings with Lewis, 38, on Instagram. Their first wedding celebration took place at a courthouse in Newark, New Jersey, in an intimate ceremony with their parents in attendance. The second celebration was held in Washington DC with more guests in attendance.
Lewis wore a high-collared white dress with a cape and black heels for her courthouse wedding, and a stunning strapless white lace dress for her second celebration.
The couple legalized their marriage in court on November 24th, and the wedding party was held on November 29th, according to the New York Times. Because Lewis is Jewish and Booker is Christian, an interfaith ceremony was held, with both a rabbi and a pastor blessing the couple.
“We are filled with gratitude,” the couple jointly posted on Instagram. “We said ‘I do’ in two places that shaped us: Cory’s beloved Newark and Alexis’ hometown of Washington, D.C., first in court and then with our families.”
“Our hearts are full and we are so grateful,” they added.
Mr. Booker’s engagement to Mr. Lewis, an investment director at Los Angeles real estate investment firm Brasa Capital Management, took place less than three months after they announced their engagement.
According to a report in the New York Times, the two met in May 2024 through a mutual friend known for matchmaking. They went on a five-hour blind date and convinced her to postpone her flight to Newark for a work trip so they could go on a second date the next night.
The two moved in together in April, got engaged by August after receiving a proposal in Hawaii.
“Alexis is one of the greatest blessings I’ve ever had in my life,” she shared on Instagram while announcing her engagement. “She transformed me, allowing me to ground and center my inner life, and helped me discover the joy of building a nurturing home with the people I love.”
Booker’s ex-girlfriend Rosario Dawson commented on the post: “Love you! Congratulations to both of you! ❤️❤️.”
Some fans continue to comment that Lewis and Dawson, 46, look a lot alike.
One X user joked in response to the news of Booker’s marriage: “Rosario…oh never mind.”
Another X user called Lewis a “clone” of Dawson.
“Is that Rosario Dawson’s sister?” wrote another comment.
Booker and Dawson broke up in February 2022 after three years of dating, but they have remained on good terms.
The politician went on a rant about The Mandalorian star during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2019.
“She’s a really deep-spirited person and has already taught me so many lessons about love,” Booker said of Dawson. “And sometimes you are at your greatest strength when you make yourself the underdog.”
“She has a really nurturing spirit and has encouraged me even more to love more fearlessly, not only in the love that I want to see and project in this country, but also in our personal relationships. So I’m very, very happy to be with someone who makes me a better person,” he added.
