At the same time that CBS is experiencing layoffs, some disturbing numbers are flying through the halls of Tiffany Networks.
Page Six heard that as employees watched their colleagues clean their desks, they also learned that CBSNews’ new boss, Bari Weiss,’s security detail was costing the company five figures a day. Insiders say the Free Press founder is surrounded by eight bodyguards at all times and travels in a caravan of SUVs, just like the president and vice president.
And Balibaria is said to cost $10,000 per day. The figure has unprecedented detail and is sure to catch your eye. But the breach comes as the struggling network lost 100 staffers in a disaster that affected every level of the storied news organization, right down to former “The View” co-host Lisa Lin, who announced last week that she had been removed as a contributor.
There are even rumors that Gayle King, the network’s highest-paid on-air personality, could appear on “CBS This Morning.” (King said she was told the network wanted to keep her.)
Mr. Weiss has characteristically become a divisive figure within the network in his first few weeks on the job.
The former New York Times opinion writer took over the news division (which once housed news greats like Walter Cronkite, Dan Rather and Edward R. Murrow) in early October, despite having virtually no news experience, after CBS parent Paramount acquired his Substack newsletter, the Free Press. Paramount recently completed its $8 billion merger with Skydance.
Mr. Weiss is a committed Zionist, which is speculated to be the reason for the tight security, especially after the assassination of fellow media personality Charlie Kirk.
