Netflix has released a trailer for “The Rip,” a new crime thriller starring longtime collaborators and Hollywood BFFS’ Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.
The film’s official logline states, “When we discover millions of cash in a derelict stash, trust begins to wear out among the team of Miami police officers. Everything is put into question as external forces learn about the magnitude of the seizure.
Alongside Damon and Affleck, “The Rip” stars Stephen Yen, Teyana Taylor, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Sasha Carre, Nestor Carbonel, Lina Esco, Scott Adkins and Kyle Chandler. Joe Carnahan is the writer-director.
In an interview with Tudum, Carnahan said that “The Rip” was born out of his love for action films in the 70s and his experience with his best friend who worked in drugs for Miami-Dade PD.
“The Rip came from the deep and personal experiences my friends have experienced as a father and as the head of tactical drugs at the Miami-Dade Police Department,” Carnahan said. “It was partly inspirational in his life, and the classic “My Enduring Love for the ’70s Cop Thriller” that really appreciated the character and interpersonal relationships and became a touchstone for the era — films like “Serpico” and “Prince of the City” and more recently, Michael Mann’s “Heat.”
Both Affleck and Damon are producers under the co-founded artist equity banner. They also produce Dani Bernfeld and Luciana Damon. Executive producers include Kevin Hallolan and Michael Joe. Michael McGrale and Sasha Veneziano will co-produce, while Gage Hanlon will associate-produce.
“The Rip” will be on Netflix on January 16th, 2026. Please see the trailer below.
