Netflix has released the first look at Will Ferrell’s new comedy series, The Hawk, and announced a summer premiere window.
The teaser shows Ferrell as golfer Ronnie “The Hawk” Hawkins, wearing a hot pink golf shirt, curly platinum blonde hair and a white visor with the word “Hawk” written on it. As Hawkins poses, a voiceover says, “This summer, a legend returns. An icon, a champion, an American hero.” As the narrator continues, Hawkins blurts out, “His name is Ronnie the Hawk Hawkins.” Then Hawkins interjected and said, “It’s me. I’m him. That’s what they’re talking about. If you’re wondering.”
Netflix also released two additional teasers with slight variations. In one story, Hawkins shakes his head and says silently, “Don’t bring that story up,” before the narrator adds that Hawkins “will forever be remembered for the greatest chokehold in the history of gold.” In another photo, he threw a handful of white chalk powder into the air and choked on it, a nod to LeBron James, who does the same thing before NBA games. “That wasn’t a good idea,” Hawkins said.
The official description for “The Hawk” reads: “Ronnie Hawkins, the No. 1 golfer of 2004, struggles on the back nine of his career to recapture his magic. His body says he’s retired, but his mind says he’s not done yet. With his ex-wife and golf’s new golden boy… One son, Lance, knows he’s done. But with just one more major to win to complete golf’s Grand Slam, Ronnie refuses to believe he’s done. “He’s one stroke away from the biggest comeback in golf history. In addition to Ferrell, the cast also includes Molly Shannon, Jimmy Tatro, Fortune Feimster, Luke Wilson, Chris Parnell, Caitlin Tarver, and David Hornsby.
Executive producers include Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum and Alix Taylor of Gloria Sanchez Productions. T Street has Rian Johnson, Ram Bergman, and Nena Rodrigue. Chris Henchy. Harper Steele. David Gordon Green; and Andrew Guest.
