NBC taps NFL kickoff to spotlight new NBA rights

NBC says, ”

However, NBC’s goal is not to focus on the NFL, which recently started its 2025-26 season seriously. During Sunday night matchup between the Baltimore Ravens and the Buffalo Bills, NBC unveiled a new promotion promoting upcoming NBA coverage that will bounce back in late October as part of a new 11-year rights deal between the Basketball League and NBCuniversal.

In the promotion, three members of NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder are unsure of finding six of NBC’s new NBA analysts and commentators steal the spotlight. Grant Hill, Vince Carter, Carmelo Anthony, Tracy McGrady, Reggie Miller and Jamal Crawford will all be featured in the crowd as “The Starting Lineup for Team NBC and Peacock.” Meanwhile, Thunder players, Shy Gilgaus Alexander, Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren, have to wait for recognition. Finally, NBC Sports’ flagship Mike Tirico told the NBA star, “That’s my team.”

“The introduction to NBA players has always played a major role in thrilling the arena crowds and those watching at home to the game. Given the legacy of celebrating the player intro to NBC Sports, we decided to showcase the terrifying lineup of NBA stars who will become part of the NBC and the Peacock Broadcast Team,” Jose Frey, senior vice president of creative marketing for sports and entertainment at NBCuniversal. “This is both a fun way to showcase the talents of NBC sports and spotlight some of the league’s great young NBA players. This is a fun start that promises to be a very exciting season for the NBC and Peacock NBA.”

NBC has a reason to reveal the words about the looming NBA report. The network will dedicate two nights a week schedule to NBA games after the New Year, and another night of television broadcasts streaming on the Peacock alone. NBCU is believed to spend an estimated $2.5 billion a year on deals that will give you the opportunity to broadcast 100 regular season games. NBA All-Star Game. And Passel, an exclusive playoff game. As an indication of how much NBC wants this sports deal, the company is paying more for NBA games than its current NFL package, according to estimates from independent analytics firm Moffettnathanson.

The company appears to borrow a strategy adopted as it sought to attract viewers for coverage of the 2024 Parisiolmín Games. NBC distracted the event’s appetite by releasing a series of flashy promotions that tap on celebrities such as Paris Hilton, Dolly Parton and Sabrina Carpenter. Sports Broadcast represents one programming format that continues to draw the large simultaneous audiences that advertisers need and cable and satellite distributors need. While fans are built into the matchup between the NFL games and the NHL, the key to the future of NBC and its rivals will be captivated by new audiences, who may not be the stubbornness of the sport or the stan of the local team.

NBC has not had the right to broadcast NBA games since 2002. On October 21st, the promotion reminds viewers that professional basketball is coming back. NBC and Peacock will begin new efforts with a double header on Tuesday, October 21st. The Houston Rockets thunder at 7:30pm, followed by the Golden State Warriors for the Los Angeles Lakers. First up NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry and Lebron James are among the stars who will begin their long-awaited NBC debut in the NBA on Tuesday, October 21st. The one-hour studio show hosted by Anthony, Carter and Maria Taylor will be on sale at 6:30pm
