Under executive Cesar Conde’s oversight, NBC News has rolled out a series of streaming products that give digitally savvy news lovers access to “Today,” “Dateline,” and more. From now on, the company plans to offer all content in one basket.
The new service will make all NBC News content available in one app, from linear programming episodes to podcasts and existing streams, as well as new exclusive reports and live channels from NBC-owned local stations, Telemundo, Sky and NBC Sports. This subscription also includes NBC News Now, a live streaming news service that provides readers with deeper reporting on breaking news. The exact name and exact price have not been disclosed.
The latest details on the new service, which was first announced in February, were previously reported by Axios. NBC News executives plan to provide a more detailed briefing to staff later this week.
NBC News is creating new packages just as rival CNN, owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, is putting a new emphasis on subscription-based digital products that offer access to its flagship cable network, along with on-demand viewing of special programming and curation of ongoing news coverage. Some of them are not available through linear means.
The new service is aimed at attracting a growing segment of consumers who are not accustomed to tuning into terrestrial television networks for news and instead turn to social media and digital video.
NBC News executives expect the new service to be used “on the go,” with a greater emphasis on vertical video. It is not expected to cannibalize the audience of other products, such as the “Dateline” FAST channel or select “Today” streams.
