The NBA has postponed the game between the Minnesota Timberwolves and Golden State Warriors after a man was shot and killed by federal agents in Minneapolis on Saturday.
“The National Basketball Association game between the Golden State Warriors and the Minnesota Timberwolves scheduled for today at Target Center has been postponed,” a statement on the Minnesota Timberwolves’ Instagram page said. “This decision was made to prioritize the safety and security of the Minneapolis community.”
The game was originally scheduled to be broadcast Saturday on ABC, but was postponed to Sunday at 4:30 p.m. Central Time and will be broadcast for the first time on NBA TV.
Minnesota residents have been locked in days of protests against the presence of ICE agents in the state. A nationwide immigration crackdown has become a focus of President Donald Trump’s second term.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has repeatedly criticized ICE’s presence in his state. Today, he told the New York Times about the incident: “They killed a man, caused chaos, pushed demonstrators down, threw gas indiscriminately. Then we were left to clean up.”
In a series of posts on Truth Social, President Trump was quick to blame Governor Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Fay for the chaos, claiming they were “inciting an insurrection” to distract from the state’s recent social services fraud investigation.
“The mayor and governor are inciting insurrection with arrogant, dangerous and arrogant statements,” he wrote. “Instead, these sanctimonious political idiots should be looking for billions of dollars stolen from the people of Minnesota and the United States of America. Let our ice patriots do their job!”
