Natalie Portman officially announced her divorce from Benjamin Millepied, her husband with whom she has two children, in early 2024. The former couple have been together for more than a decade and married in 2012 after meeting on the set of Black Swan.
Since then, Portman has quietly moved on, keeping much of her personal life out of the public eye. Although she has not publicly discussed details about her dating life, she is said to have been in a relationship with her new partner, Tanguy d’Estable, since March 2025.
Take a look back at her complete dating history here.
Jake Gyllenhaal
Although Portman was often seen in the arms of past partners, she always managed to keep the more intimate details of her love life private. According to E!, she and actor Jake Gyllenhaal are believed to have started dating around 2002, but they later broke up and remarried in 2006 after they were spotted on a date in New York. It’s unclear how long it lasted, but she was in romantic relationships with other people during that time, so it may have been casual.
No matter what happened, they seem to have maintained a good relationship. The two starred in the 2009 psychological drama Brothers, and Gyllenhaal awarded her the Desert Palm Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011. He joked on stage, “She’s vegan, so choosing where to eat is really frustrating.”
And he called her “the Audrey Hepburn of our generation. She’s graceful, has great eyebrows, is talented, very short, funny, smart, dedicated, incredibly kind, and Jewish!”
Gael Garcia Bernal
From 2003 to 2007, Portman was seen intermittently with Mexican actor Gael García Bernal. Kien reported that the two met at an Oscar afterparty. They broke up but got back together again. Remezcla reports that back in 2006, witnesses claimed to have seen the two enjoying some PDA together. A source said: “They put on quite a show. They were crazy about each other the whole night. They didn’t care who was watching. They just thought about themselves. It was unbelievable.”
The two were also spotted together at the Berlin International Film Festival and the US Open in the same year.
In 2007, Rainey Gossip reported that the two spent time together at a Vanity Fair party.
“I heard her complain about her shoulders one time, and he rubbed it, not in a perverted way, but in a pleasant way between two people who are very comfortable with each other,” the gossip columnist wrote. “She then bent down to drink his drink, wrapped her arms around him and brought it to his mouth.”
Nathan Bogle
In September 2007, Portman was spotted with Rag & Bone founder Nathan Bogle at the US Open in New York City.
Devendra Banhart
Musician Devendra Banhart met Portman in 2008 when she appeared in the music video for her song “Carmencita.” The two were often spotted around New York City that year, enjoying a walk and coffee, as seen in this photo. They disbanded later the same year. According to InStyle, sources said Portman was serious about her career, although they broke up because of her “free spirit” and “complexities.”
Benjamin Millepied
In 2009, Portman learned ballet from dancer and choreographer Benjamin Millepied for her role in Darren Aronofsky’s hit film Black Swan. A spark flew and they soon started dating. She won an Oscar for this role in 2011, and in her acceptance speech said, “To my beautiful lover, Benjamin Millepied, he choreographed this movie and gave me the most important role of my life.”
Portman was already pregnant with son Aleph and was due to give birth to daughter Amalia in 2017. In August 2023, there were rumors of marital discord, and they finally decided to separate after 11 years of marriage. Portman filed for divorce in July 2023, and the divorce was finalized in March 2024.
Tanguy d’Estable
Portman was first reported to be dating French music producer Tanguy d’Estable in March 2025, and French news agency Voici reported that the two were dating. Later that month, the two were photographed together in Paris. People at the time also acknowledged the relationship.
In June 2025, Portman and D’Estable were again photographed walking together in Paris.
Around the same time, Portman reflected on her time in France in an interview with Net-a-Porter, giving insight into why she values living there. “People here protect their privacy very well,” she said. “I think the biggest compliment is ‘elle est très discrete’ (‘she’s very thoughtful’).”
