CBS faced technical difficulties Wednesday night that interrupted its live broadcast of “New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash” for about 12 minutes.
Meanwhile, the network aired an episode of “Matlock,” but the sudden change greatly disrupted viewers who had been watching a selection of country music superstars perform from Nashville and other locations toward midnight. The interruption occurred about 50 minutes into the 5.5-hour special.
The circumstances behind the technical issue were not entirely clear.
At approximately 8:50 p.m. Pacific time, singer and actor Laney Wilson was abruptly interrupted in the middle of a song. Shortly after, CBS canceled the commercial series after citing “technical issues.” They were followed by an episode of “Matlock” which appeared to be in progress. Finally, after about 12 and a half minutes, host Bert Kreischer and country singer Hardy reappeared and apologized for the interruption. Singer Gretchen Wilson then took to the stage.
The event will be held at Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park in Nashville. The 2025 telecast featured country luminaries such as Jason Aldean, Bailey Zimmerman, CeCe Winans, Fisk Jubilee Singers, Dierks Bentley, Brooks & Dunn, Rascal Flatts, Riley Greene, Marcus King, Megan Moloney, Zach Top, Keith Urban, and Stephen Wilson Jr.
“Nashville’s Big Bash” is executive produced by Robert Deaton and Mary Hilliard Harrington in association with Music City, Inc., a foundation of the Nashville Convention and Visitors Corporation.
