Naomi Osaka always brings powerful fashion to the tennis court.
The 28-year-old star doesn’t stick to the classic white tennis player. Instead, she’s using the game as her own runway, making a statement even before she picks up a racket, from her dazzling love bath to her oversized bow and more.
One week after the start of the 2026 Australian Open, Osaka wore perhaps her most eye-catching look to date.
Wearing Robert Wang haute couture, the athlete took to the tennis court wearing a turquoise and green racerback tunic and tiered white knife-pleated pants.
Her Nike-branded top featured ribbons and ruffles inspired by jellyfish tendrils, while a wide-brimmed white bat boasted a tulle veil that mimicked the creature’s fluid nature.
The tennis player spoke to Vogue about her clothing choices. “When I look back at the players who came before me, I think about how that moment, that look, became a lasting memory,” he said, adding, “This felt like a moment where I could write a little bit about myself.”
The inspiration for the jellyfish came from my two-year-old daughter, Shai. “I had an image of a jellyfish, so I showed it to her and she was really excited.”
Initially, it was translated into Nike’s zip-up, which featured similar ruffles and tendrils, expressing “the beauty and grace of a jellyfish, not to mention its strength,” which Osaka also shares.
“When I saw[the jacket]during the fitting, I remember thinking, ‘This is beautiful,’ but I also felt like the story wasn’t quite finished yet,” Osaka told the magazine, looking to Ng to help her fully understand the fashion moment.
Ng also revealed that Osaka’s 2021 Australian Open moment actually inspired one of her fall 2024 collection looks, making it a perfect circular partnership.
“A simple and beautiful scene went viral when a butterfly landed on her face during a match and she gently placed it aside. I wanted to revisit that story and weave it into this design and collaboration,” he explained.
Osaka also incorporated a magical moment into her look by adding a small butterfly to her hat.
