A ransom account set up for the return of Savannah Guthrie’s missing mother Nancy is reportedly still empty, even as a second deadline approaches.
According to TMZ, a Bitcoin account was opened to accept funds in exchange for Nancy, but no transactions were recorded and the balance remained at $0.
The outlet was one of several to receive a ransom letter from the alleged kidnappers demanding a “transfer” of millions of dollars in Bitcoin.
ABC affiliate KGUN9 in Tucson, Arizona, reported that the potential arrestees demanded that the Guthrie family pay them $6 million in Bitcoin by a deadline of Monday, February 9th at 5pm (Montana).
Over the weekend, the “Today” host, along with his brother Camron and sister Annie, offered to pay their mother’s ransom in an emotional appeal to her alleged captors.
“We received and understood your message,” she said, sitting hand in hand with her brothers.
“Please give us back our mother now so we can celebrate with her,” she added. “This is the only way we can achieve peace. This is something that is very valuable to us and we will pay the price for it.”
After the initial deadline passed, Kamron issued a new appeal on social media to have her mother returned.
“I’m speaking on behalf of the Guthrie family. We want to hear from you, whoever is holding our mother. We haven’t heard anything directly. We need you to reach out. We need a way to communicate with you in order for us to move forward.”
Nancy was last seen on January 31, when her son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni, gave the 84-year-old a ride after having dinner with him and his wife, Annie.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said a search of Nancy’s home revealed to investigators that they had viewed the crime scene.
Nanos called the findings “deeply disturbing” and “inherently questionable,” adding that he believed Nancy was “kidnapped” and “harmed” in the process.
Authorities were reportedly seen searching Annie and Cioni’s Tucson home in the middle of the night on Saturday, taking photos in Montana until about 10:30 p.m.
Police were also seen searching the septic tank behind Nancy’s home on Sunday. However, the police officers finished searching the septic tank empty-handed.
The investigation into Nancy’s disappearance is now in its second week, but no suspect has yet been named.
