And now they’re taking off their rings too.
Page Six has learned that Times Square’s famous Naked Cowboy and his wife, Naked Cowgirl, are divorcing.
The eccentric exhibitionists, who have been entertaining tourists with their saucy musical acts for decades, married in 2013 and have been happily tearing each other’s G-strings ever since.
Or so it seemed!
Like many showbiz marriages that came before them, it turned out that the glittering public surface hid a dark truth.
It appears that the nude couple has now broken up.
Naked Cowboy filed for an uncontested divorce on February 9, and a judge granted the divorce on Thursday, according to court documents viewed by Page Six.
The two are business partners of sorts. Cow Poke, the notorious litigator who sued M&Ms and CBS for using Naked Cowboy-style characters, reportedly owns the Naked Cowgirl character trademark and has licensed it to various women, including his current wife. It is unclear whether they will maintain a professional relationship.
As a result of his business-savvy busking, he is reportedly worth around $2 million.
Naked Cowboy is running for mayor of New York and for president of the United States. He had hoped to challenge Barack Obama in the 2012 election and represent the Tea Party wing of the Republican Party in the White House. (He lost the race for the Republican nomination to Mitt Romney.)
In 2007, he released the album “Year of the Cowboy”.
The good news for both is that if there’s one thing that can revitalize a country-western career, it’s a good divorce ballad.
The former couple could not be reached for comment. (After all, where would they store their iPhones?)
