Alessandra Mussolini, the granddaughter of Italy’s fascist dictator Benito Mussolini and a longtime controversial figure in both political and entertainment circles, is set to become a contestant on Italy’s version of “Celebrity Big Brother.”
Alessandra is the daughter of Romano Mussolini, Benito Mussolini’s fourth son, and Maria Cicolone, Sophia Loren’s sister, and Loren’s niece. She is sure to become one of the most talked about contestants on the “Grande Fratello VIP”, which is called the Endemol Shine reality show in Italy. The upcoming 8th edition will be premiered on March 17th on Mediaset’s flagship station Canale 5.
Mussolini’s granddaughter has long moved between Italy’s entertainment and political circles. First she tried to emulate Lauren’s career, appearing in 12 Italian films between 1972 and 1990. This included a small role with Lauren in Ettore Scola’s A Special Day, a film set during Hitler’s 1938 visit to Italy. She also released a pop music album in Japan in 1982 titled “Amore”.
Following in the footsteps of her grandfather, Alessandra Mussolini later entered Italian politics in the early 1990s as a member of Italy’s neo-fascist Italian Social Movement and became a prominent right-wing politician. She served several terms as a senator and a member of the House of Representatives in the Italian Parliament, and later as a member of the European Parliament. During this time, Alessandra became a regular on Italian television talk shows and appeared on Italy’s Dancing with the Stars, which airs on national broadcaster RAI.
Her upcoming appearance on “Grande Fratello VIP” will mark the first time a prominent Italian politician has participated in a reality show, as well as adding a new chapter to her long-standing relationship with showbiz.
“Stay strong,” Mussolini told fans on social media. “I will be joining the ‘Big Brother’ house as a contestant. We have to dance, we have to sing and we want to learn from other people.”
