Murder, She Wrote, a reboot of the popular crime drama, will be released in theaters next Christmas. Universal Pictures plans to release the film on December 22, 2027.
Jamie Lee Curtis stars in Murder, She Writing as Jessica Fletcher, the iconic crime writer and amateur detective known as Jessica Fletcher, who was memorably played by Angela Lansbury in the original television series. Plot details for the upcoming series are being kept under wraps, but the show, which aired for 12 seasons from 1984 to 1996, centers on Fletcher’s talent for solving murders in the quaint fictional town of Cabot Cove, Maine.
“Murder, She Wrote” will be released at the same time as Sony’s animated adventure “Buds” and will hit screens three days earlier than director Nancy Meyers’ untitled romantic comedy starring Kieran Culkin, Michael Fassbender, Jude Law and Penelope Cruz. With the holiday season being the busiest time of the year for movie-going, Murder, She Wrote faces competition from two major blockbusters: Disney’s Avengers: Secret Wars and Warner Bros.’ sequel The Lord of the Rings, set for Dec. 17, the weekend before. Legendary’s sci-fi epic Dune: Part III (also known as Dunesday) is progressing well, but some of those release dates may change.
Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect) is directing Murder, She Wrote, a reboot from a script by Dame Money screenwriters Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo. Amy Pascal, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who recently collaborated on Amazon MGM’s hit Project Hail Mary, will produce the film through Lord Miller’s first-look deal with Universal Pictures.
