Catherine Harding, the mother of Jude Law’s 11-year-old daughter Ada, who is said to have shed tears during a brutal encounter with a security guard at Chapel Lawn, has spoken out about her position.
Ms Harding’s husband, Brazilian soccer player Jorginho Frero, slammed Mr Loan on Saturday, claiming that Harding’s security guard violently confronted his stepdaughter and wife at a hotel in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Flero claimed that Ada did not approach Roan or ask her anything before they met, but that she was just a fan and simply walked past the table to confirm it was Roan.
After developing a fever, Roan said in an Instagram video that security was not part of her personal safety and that she was never approached by Ada and Harding.
Harding shared her side of the story on Instagram Sunday, saying she had received many messages asking if Flero’s story was true. Ms Harding questioned Ms Loan’s claims, saying she knew the security guard was not a hotel security guard, but rather someone who “looked after the artists”.
“Did she send him to do that? Again, I don’t know,” she said. “I hope that doesn’t happen, but at the same time, I think as a public figure you have a responsibility to make sure that the people who work for you and are acting on your behalf are acting on your behalf.”
“So if he didn’t have that authority, would he do that? I don’t know,” she continued. “If he does that, that’s obviously a big problem because he’s representing her in a way that she doesn’t want.”
Harding said Ada did not have a cell phone, did not take any photos and did not approach Roan during the encounter.
“She literally didn’t do anything, she just stared…and she came back and said, ‘Mom, I don’t know if that’s her,’ because obviously she…the costume and everything…looks a little different,” she recalled.
Harding said they continued to eat breakfast, but then a security guard confronted them with a “very aggressive tone.”
“Even if[Roann]sent him or she didn’t send him, I don’t know. To me, that really felt like crossing the line,” she said.
Harding said the guard reprimanded them and told her she needed to teach her daughter to be better and respect people’s privacy. Harding said she tried to explain that Ada was a child and was just excited to meet her idol singer.
Harding also said that Ada explained to the guard that because her stepfather was famous in Brazil, she was used to being around celebrities and would not cross anyone’s boundaries.
At this point, Harding said, he explained to Roan that if she didn’t want to be seen, she should eat breakfast in her room because the hotel was a public area and she had paid to stay and had a right to be seen.
Harding said Ada ultimately chose to skip Roan’s show, even though tickets to that night’s performance had been her birthday present.
“I think she’s a very talented artist. I like her a lot,” Harding said. “We came all the way to São Paulo to see the show. It was a birthday present for our daughter…we didn’t go to the show last night so it was a little ruined.”
The 28-year-old “Pink Pony Club” singer has had a complicated relationship since the beginning of her career, wanting to set boundaries between fame and her fans. Earlier this month, she was snapped by a paparazzi taking pictures of herself in Paris during Paris Fashion Week.
