Indian Malayalam cinema superstar Mohanlal has been named the winner of the Dadasahebfalke Award, India’s finest film honor. The country’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting confirmed its selection and was awarded to be awarded to the 71st National Film Awards held in New Delhi on September 23rd.
This award – in 1969, in commemoration of Dadasaheb Falke (1913), director of Indian cinema pioneer Raja Harishandra (1913), India’s first full-length feature, considered the father of Indian cinema, is given for its remarkable contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema.
With a career spanning nearly 50 years, Mohanlal has appeared in over 360 films in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi languages. He is known for his famous performances for his acclaimed performances with titles such as “Kiredam”, “Bharatham”, “Vanaprlastham”, and the hit franchise “Drishyam”. He was previously recognized in Padma Shri in 2001 and Padma Bhushan in 2019.
Ashwini Vaishno congratulated the actors on social media, writing: “The Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting.”
Mohanlal praised the audience and colleagues who have supported his career, saying the perception is “a great honor for me and for Malayalam films.”
Past winners of the Dadasaheb Falke Award include filmmakers Satyazit Ray, Adore Gopalkrishnan, Mr. Sen, Sham Benegal, Tapan Sinha, actors Sumitra Chatterjee, Wahieda Rehman, Amitabh Bachchan, Dilip Kumar, Rajmal, Shivji Ganenyan, Ashva Raowana, Kapoor, Asha Parekh, Rajinikanth, musicians Manna Dey, Bhupen Hazarika, Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhonsle.
