Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, the hit Paris-set girl-powered series Miraculous is gearing up for its next theatrical animated adventure with a top-notch creative team.
Producer John Cohen (Despicable Me, Angry Birds) and screenwriter Matt Lawler (Rick and Morty, Community) are joining Miraculous Corp., a joint venture formed about a year ago between Media One and Zag, the company founded by Miraculous writer, director and producer Jeremy Zag.
The next big screen project currently in development will be the next installment in the series, whose first installment, Miraculous Ladybug & Chat Noir, was a worldwide hit in 2023. The film was streamed on Netflix in many territories, including the United States, Canada, and Latin America, and did well at the box office in most of Europe, where it was released theatrically, grossing over $40 million. Featuring eight original songs, the musical film also garnered attention as the first female superhero film set in Paris.
Cohen and Lawler will work on the new film alongside Jeremy Zag, who directed and produced the first Miraculous film. The announcement was made by Andy Yetman, CEO of Miraculous Corp USA and Global Operations.

“I’ve been a huge fan of ‘Miraculous’ for years. With its combination of character-driven storytelling, great comedy, breathtaking action and powerful themes, there are few franchises in the world that have captured the hearts of people quite as much as ‘Miraculous,'” said Cohen, who is currently producing The Angry Birds Movie 3, starring Jason Sudeikis, at Paramount Pictures and scheduled for release in December 2026. Becoming a true culture An icon that unites fans from Paris, São Paulo and Seoul. The opportunity to help create an international theatrical feature film for Ladybug and Cat Noir was very appealing given their incredible legacy,” added Cohen, whose production credits include Despicable Me and The Garfield Movies.
Meanwhile, director Lawler said, “What excites me about ‘Miraculous’ is that it balances grand superhero spectacle with deeply relatable characters and a story about real emotions like love, trust, jealousy, and hope.” “That combination makes for a storyteller’s dream playground, and I can’t wait to take these heroes and their world into fresh and exciting chapters that will surprise audiences while staying true to everything we love about Miraculous,” continued Lawler, creator, showrunner and executive producer of the Netflix animated comedy Haunted Hotel, which premiered in September. His many television credits include “Community,” “Speechless” and “Rick and Morty.” He is currently writing an original comedy for Sony.
Zag and Media One chairman and co-founder Pierre-Antoine Capton, who hosted a celebration at the Eiffel Tower on the eve of Mipcon to commemorate Miraculous’ 10th anniversary, said he was looking forward to Mr. Cohen and Mr. Lawler joining the Miraculous project and “seeing[their]ambitions realized on the big screen in a feature film.”
“The Miracle is a journey that started 15 years ago, and at first it was very difficult to make it happen,” said Zag, speaking at a gala event in Paris surrounded by his family, creative partners and business partners. Granted, this was a brand new IP with female superheroes before it got all the hype. Zag also focused on weaving themes of resilience, courage, and identity alongside action-adventure and comedy. As such, “Miraculous” is highly regarded as a benchmark for values-based entertainment for young people. Zag, who has shared the stage with Capton, Yetman, Astrak, Bron and Aton Soumash, also praised Media One as a “great partner who has given[Miraculous]new energy to take the brand further around the world.”
Miraculous has expanded beyond television and movies to include toys, books, fashion, games, live events, and more.
“A great idea is never enough,” Capton said, adding that Miraculous is “a symbol of French creativity.” “We need great writers, inspired artists, passionate producers, loyal partners, and most of all, an audience that believes in this movie. So we want to thank the talent, the studios, the broadcasters, the platforms and licensees, the marketing teams, the sales teams, and most of all the women, the women who grew up with Ladybug and who still hold her in their hearts,” Capton said. “After all, the miracle of ‘Ladybug’ is that it is making hearts around the world beat in tune with a comic that was born in Paris.”
“The next 10 years will be even more ambitious: new stories, new worlds, new emotions, new movies, always the same energy, the same high standards and the same passion,” the executive said.
Director Yetman said, “With John (Coen)’s extraordinary track record of creating global animated hits and Matt’s rare talent for blending heart, humor and imagination, our film will not only excite audiences, but deepen our bonds with these beloved heroes.”
