Minka Kelly has opened up about her relationship with Imagine Dragons frontman Dan Reynolds.
The Champagne Issues actress appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show on Wednesday, Nov. 19, and talked about how she and her boyfriend first met.
Barrymore, 50, asked Kelly, 45, if it was true that Reynolds, 38, had read excerpts from her book Tell Me Everything: A Memoir before they met in person.
Kelly explained that a mutual friend told her they should get in touch. But because she was out of the country for work, they FaceTimed and texted each other before meeting in person.
“And I accidentally said, ‘What a crazy day it’s been, I just turned the last page of the book,'” she recalled. “Then he said, ‘I want to read it.’ And I was like, ‘Well, okay, let’s go.’ Either you will get scared and run towards the hills, or you will see the beauty in it all. ” ”
“Luckily he was the latter and we became even closer because of it,” she said.
Barrymore added, “I mean, God, how great would that actually be if we could all bring documents about our lives?”

The conversation between the two actresses follows Kelly’s awkward interview on the Today show just one day earlier, when Jenna Bush Hager tried to ask her about Reynolds.
Kelly appeared as a guest on Tuesday, November 18th, to promote her new Netflix holiday film, Champagne. After discussing the movie, Bush Hager, 43, tried to strike up a conversation about Kelly’s boyfriend.
“When it comes to the holidays, love, and this rom-com, you have so much love in your life right now,” Bush Hager said. “If you feel like it, please talk about your relationship.”
Kelly expressed discomfort with the change of subject, but the morning show host persisted. “I believe that when you posted this birthday message, you were healing a wound that you didn’t inflict,” Bush Hager said. “That’s beautiful.”
“Yeah, it’s beautiful,” the Ransom Canyon star agreed. “I feel very lucky, he’s a really good guy.”
Then Bush Hager got a message. “Okay, I guess you don’t want to talk about it, that’s fine,” she said.

The Friday Night Lights star and Reynolds have been dating since 2022, after Reynolds divorced ex-wife Aja Volkman.
Reynolds previously told PEOPLE that he spoke with Kelly on the phone for a month and that it was a “really weird and wonderful way” for the couple to bond. They then exchanged each other’s work, and he read excerpts from her book while she read his songs for the band’s Room album.
The musician said he thinks this helped the two “immediately understand each other on a deeper level.”
“I had never been introduced to someone like that,” the singer recalled, before meeting her in person. “I heard all the stories of her life from when she was young to now.”
