Millie Bobby Brown fought back tears at her final Stranger Things table read with co-star David Harbor after he allegedly accused her of bullying.
The emotional behind-the-scenes moments are chronicled in the Netflix documentary One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5, which premiered on January 7th.
The cast was also seen rehearsing the script for a scene in which Brown’s Eleven has an emotional moment with Harbor’s David Hopper, who plays her on-screen father.
“I was just a child when you found me in the forest,” Brown recited the line her character says just before chasing the evil monster Vecna.
“I was scared. I didn’t understand the world. I didn’t understand people. But you accepted me and taught me,” she continued.
Brown, 21, stopped and looked up at Harbor from across the room, and the two looked at each other with bittersweet expressions.
Fighting back tears, she read to him, “You protected me, you raised me, you became my father.”
Haber, 50, was seen looking away after delivering a powerful line.
This heartbreaking exchange was filmed during the cast’s table read for the series finale.
Ahead of the Season 5 premiere on November 26, reports surfaced that there was tension between Brown and Harbor on set.
Sources told the Daily Mail that the Enola Holmes actress filed a lengthy complaint accusing Harbor of harassing and bullying her on set before filming began on the final season.
“Millie Bobby Brown came forward with allegations of harassment and bullying before filming began last season,” a source told the publication. “There were pages of accusations. The investigation continued for months.”
Mr. Haber, who was not accused of sexual misconduct in the report, reportedly faced an internal investigation over Mr. Brown’s allegations. Brown was reportedly accompanied by a personal representative during the filming of the final episode.
At the show’s Season 5 premiere event on Nov. 6, Brown and Harbor appeared to put an end to rumors of a feud when they posed for a photo together. But a body language expert said their friendly demeanor on the red carpet was “too much.”
Brown also praised Harbor, saying they were “so lucky to have found each other” and calling Harbor “amazing.”
Asked about the report, Mr. Brown spoke about maintaining a united front with Mr. Haber.
“We love this show more than anything and we value our friendships more than anything,” she said.
She also admitted in an interview with Deadline that she “felt safe” while filming with Harbor.
“Of course I felt safe. I mean, we’ve been working together for 10 years. I feel safe with everyone on set,” she told the outlet.
“You obviously…you know, you’ve been doing it for a long time. We also play father and daughter, so we’ve had some really intense scenes together, especially in season two, so naturally we have a stronger bond than most,” she added.
Brown was 12 years old when the series premiered in 2016, while Harbor was approximately 41 years old.
In 2021, Harbor spoke out about their close bond.
“Millie and I have always had a special relationship because I’ve known her since she was little. I’ve known her since before she had all this fame,” he said at the time on an episode of the podcast “That Scene with Dan Patrick.”
“I have really protective feelings towards her. I’m really worried,” he added. “I’m worried about her and the fame and all the things she has to struggle with.”
